In the first of this multi-part series, we will be shining a light on the health issues that dental professionals struggle with. We will be looking at physical health; addiction in a number of forms; neurodiversity and, in particular, mental health. We will be looking at what underpins the health of dental professionals; why dental professionals may be particularly prone to certain aspects of ill health and review how prevalent significant health issues are for dental professionals. Our aim is to increase awareness of general ill health as it is experienced by the profession and that, by increasing knowledge, act as a preventive resource to decrease occurrence and the impact of the factors that contribute to illness.
