PSP Program

The March 8, 2020 Sand Point clam sample has elevated PSP Toxin levels of
204 micrograms
and is ABOVE the FDA limit of 80 micrograms. These are UNSAFE PSP levels!

The Qagan Tayagungin Tribe neither encourages nor discourages the consumption of the local shellfish, but provides this information for the community members to make an educated decision regarding shellfish consumption

The Response to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning in Aleut Communities project is funded by the Region 10 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and managed by the Qagan Tayagungin Tribe with the Indian General Assistance Program (IGAP). The samples are all analyzed by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Environmental Health Laboratory using approved analytical methods. The data collection will continue through September 2020.
